Diabetes Fair Education Event Set for Dec. 7

  • November 20, 2023

Brookings Health System will hold the second annual diabetes fair on Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the health system’s Conference Room A. The free, educational event is geared toward people living with diabetes as well as healthcare providers.

“Diabetics personally manage the majority of their care,” said Registered Dietitian Katy VanderWal who heads up Brookings Health’s certified diabetic education program along with Diabetic Nurse Educator Shantel Langland, RN. “Continuous education helps diabetic patients lead healthier lives with fewer long-term complications. Our diabetic education team is hosting the diabetes fair again to give our diabetic patients access to free education plus information on the available services, medications, equipment and supplies to help them manage and live with their condition.”

In addition to Brookings Health’s diabetic education team, attendees will also be able to visit with a host of other medical experts. Service booths at the event will include eye care, dental care, wound prevention, foot care with free foot screenings, home medical equipment and diabetic supplies. Several pharmaceutical companies that offer diabetic solutions will also be available.

Individuals who should consider attending the event include Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics, people newly diagnosed with diabetes, individuals diagnosed with prediabetes and caregivers for diabetics.

More information about the event and about Brookings Health’s certified diabetic education program can be found online at brookingshealth.org/diabetes.
