Two new surgeons have joined the active medical staff at Brookings Hospital, Dr. Sara Marroquin, MD, and Dr. Nephi Jones, DPM.

As a general surgeon, Dr. Marroquin performs surgical procedures in the abdomen, including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, appendix and thyroid. Some of the most common operations she will perform include appendectomy, colonoscopy, gall bladder removal, hernia repair and hemorrhoid removal. She recently completed her residency at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Sioux Falls and attended medical school at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.

Dr. Jones is a podiatrist, focusing on foot and ankle surgery. He is able to help patients find relief from conditions such as bunions, hammer toes, plantar fascititis/heel spurs, Achilles tendon tears, foot and ankle fractures and arthritis in the feet and ankles. Some common surgeries he will perform include bunion removal, bone fusions, hammer toe surgery, heel surgery, tendon surgery and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. He recently completed his residency at Iowa Methodist Center UnityPoint Health in Des Moines and attended podiatric school at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL.
