Brookings Health System recently promoted Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Brian Kvamme to the role of anesthesia director.

As anesthesia director Kvamme is responsible for day-to-day operations of the anesthesia department, including implementing and maintaining patient safety, infection control, and quality improvement measures. He also oversees department growth and finances.

Kvamme also shares equal clinical time with other staff CRNAs, providing anesthetic care for patients from initial evaluation to discharge. He and the anesthesia team work closely with surgeons and the entire operating room team to provide patients pain relief before, during and after surgery.

Kvamme has over seven years of medical experience and is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. He received his master’s in nurse anesthesia from St Mary’s University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and is also a graduate of SDSU’s nursing program.

Brookings Health System’s anesthesia department offers personalized pain management for patients, including general anesthesia, sedation, spinal, epidural and labor epidural.
