Safe Sitter Courses Open for Registration

  • April 29, 2024

Registration is now open for Brookings Health System’s popular Safe Sitter Class. Paramedic Wendy Long will teach sessions on Tuesday, May 29 and on Tuesday, July 23. Both sessions run from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Ambulance Station and Education Center, 2300 Yorkshire Drive.

“The Safe Sitter Class is a great resource for parents with adolescents looking to get into babysitting,” said Long. “By providing training in childcare, safety, life and business skills, we give teens the confidence and abilities to safely watch younger children.”

The Safe Sitter Class is recommended for young teens, 11 to 16 years of age, who are interested in babysitting and working with infants and children through school age. The course teaches how to safely care for younger children and includes First Aid and CPR.

Parents are encouraged to attend a completion ceremony at the end of class. Participants will also receive an informational packet for at-home parent education.

Cost is $60 and includes a babysitting handbook for students to keep. Each class size is limited to ten participants. To register, please visit brookingshealth.org/SafeSitter.
