Brookings Health System understands the faith and spiritual practices of each patient can be a source of hope, healing and comfort.

Our chaplain services support all areas of Brookings Health System. Services include free of charge spiritual care and pastoral counseling to hospital and hospice patients, The Neighborhoods at Brookview residents, and Brookings Health System employees.

Our staff chaplain is an Advance Practice Board Certified Chaplain (APBCC) and has completed Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), giving him the training to effectively minister to people of all faiths, cultural and spiritual backgrounds or those with no religious affiliation.

Free of charge services he provides include:

  • Pastoral visits
  • Emotional and spiritual support in times of illness, crisis or loss
  • Bereavement care for families
  • Funerals and memorial services for patients and residents without faith support
  • Chapel services for residents at The Neighborhoods at Brookview

Watch Doug Neises of Elkton talk about how he turned to his spirituality for support after experiencing a life-threatening stroke.

Watch Jerry Ellingson of Lake Preston talk about an ATV accident that nearly ended his life and his appreciation of the acknowledgement of his spirituality and willingness by the care team to treat the whole person.

Brookings Health System patients, residents, and family members who would like a pastoral care visit from our chaplain may place a request with any care provider.
