Brookings Health Second in State to Offer Robotic-Arm Assisted Orthopedic Surgery

Brookings Health System is expanding its surgical robotic program, becoming the second facility in South Dakota to offer robotic-arm assisted total knee, partial knee and total hip replacements with Stryker’s Mako System. This highly advanced robotic technology transforms the way joint replacement surgery is performed, enabling surgeons to have a more predictable surgical experience with increased accuracy.

Safe Sitter Class Scheduled for Spring Break

Registration is now open for Brookings Health System’s popular Safe Sitter Class. Paramedic Wendy Long will teach a session over Spring break on Thursday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in hospital conference room C.

Understanding Grief Classes Resume

Brookings Health System’s free six-week educational series, Understanding Grief, will begin on Monday, March 5. The class series is led by Social Worker Denise Larson, MSW, CSW.

Script Your Future is a national campaign to increase medication adherence in the university's community. SDSU pharmacy and dietetic students will supply information regarding diet and medication adherence, as well as provide blood glucose and blood pressure screenings. 

This event is open to all community members.

Upcoming Educational Event Featuring New and Improved Ostomy Products

Brookings Health System is hosting a free educational event discussing new and improved ostomy products on Monday, Feb. 26 from 7 to 8 p.m. in Brookings Hospital Conference Room A. Lisa Malone, certified wound ostomy nurse, will lead the event.

New President of the South Dakota Academy of Family Physicians

Brookings family physician, Andrew Ellsworth, was elected by his peers and recently installed to serve as President of the South Dakota Academy of Family Physicians, a group of more than 320 family physicians from the state. He has served on the Board of Directors for 4 years, three of those as Vice President and he most recently held the position of President-Elect. The office of President is a one-year term.
