Amenities

We know that dads, life partners and support persons are an important part of the labor and delivery process, too. That's why we offer room service for one support person. In addition, the OB has a selection of snacks available.

Your room has everything you’ll need to care for your baby. We encourage you to have your baby room-in with you to promote bonding. However, if you choose to take a reprieve from your baby, the Isaac Scot Nursery is staffed with highly-skilled nurses so that you can rest before going home.

Nursery Care

As defined by the American Academy of Pediatrics, we provided Level I Well Baby Nursery Care for full-term, healthy babies who do not have complications or medical needs.

In addition, we can provide Level II Special Care Nursery for newborns who require closer monitoring or care after birth. Our nurses perform regular assessments of vital signs, respiratory function, and other important parameters. To perform this monitoring, New Beginnings Birth Center is equipped with technology and supplies to support babies’ health, including warmers, neonatal CPAP, ventilators, micro IV syringe pumps, specialty feeding supplies, bili blankets and lights, and other life-saving equipment. The continuous monitoring helps detect any changes or signs of distress early on, allowing for prompt intervention and treatment. In addition, we have partnered with Avera Health's eNICU network to provide eNICU consultations to help our care team stabilize and support babies.

While babies with Level II care receive extra TLC from healthcare providers, parental involvement is still a key part of their treatment plan. Parents are encouraged to spend time with their baby and participate in their care in order to encourage bonding and gain confidence in their own abilities to care for their child. The special care nursery provides a comfortable and calming environment to foster baby-parent bonding.

Level II care helps stabilize and prepare babies for hospital discharge and life at home.

eNICU consultations from Avera Health’s eNICU network helps Brookings Health's care team stabilize and support babies who need moderate support, keeping babies in Brookings near their family.

eNICU enhances emergency and Level II Special Care Nursery services for newborns who require closer monitoring or care after birth. Neonatal intensive care providers from Avera’s eNICU network will consult with a baby’s physician at New Beginnings Birth Center. eNICU consultations further help Brookings' care team to stabilize and support babies and reduce the need for further neonatal intensive care services.
