PDO Thread Lift

Sometimes referred to as a mini-facelift, a PDO thread lift helps tighten loose skin on the jaw, cheek and neck area without surgery.

How do PDO thread lifts work?

Polydioxanone has been used extensively for over 30 years in cardiothoracic surgery. The material is fully absorbed by the body in four to six months and does not leave scars. In addition, it stimulates collagen growth. Collagen loss is one of the main causes of skin aging. The collagen protein gives skin its structure and elasticity.

To perform a lift, PDO threads, sometimes called sutures, are injected into the skin using FDA-approved, preloaded hypodermic needles. Often these are inserted in a mesh technique to recreate the face’s natural V-shape. The inserted sutures create a scaffolding to support the tissues. The sutures also delicately grasp onto the loose skin and soft tissue, repositioning them to the V-shape. Once injected in the skin, the threads’ presence triggers collagen production which builds upon the scaffold. Results include enhanced face contours, increased volume and improved skin texture.

How long do thread lifts last?

Full results for PDO threads are noticed after one to two weeks. Results typically last four to six months.

Who is a good candidate for PDO threads?

Anyone who wants to slightly lift their skin without undergoing plastic surgery is a candidate for a PDO thread lift. There is no age limit, but results are best seen in middle aged patients.

How are thread lifts different from facelifts?

PDO thread lifts are less invasive than facelift surgery. They can be performed in under 45 minutes and do not use a scalpel or any incisions. Patients report minimal to no pain after insertion. PDO threads are also cheaper than facelifts and provide immediate results that further improve over time. Unlike facelift surgery, PDO thread results are not long term.

Can PDO threads be done in conjunction with other aesthetic procedures?

Thread lifts are often used in combination with other anti-aging procedures, such as dermal fillers.
